From hearth and home to the battlefield, Black and Native American soldiers had unique experiences during the war. The war for independence was fought by White, Black and Indigenous men on both the Patriot and British sides. New Jersey was more than a crossroads for the revolution, it was also the state where soldiers, slaves and common citizens were in the crosshairs.
Come hear the story of Black and Indigenous men who fought during The Revolution here in New Jersey. This program will include the stories of the Battles of Red Bank and Monmouth in addition to the life and the skirmishes across South Jersey.
This program is presented by AAUW (the American Association of University Women) and Ellen D. Alford, author of Abolition and the Underground Railroad in South Jersey: Not Without a Fight.
